Founded by Ashley N. Jones, Persons with Silent Disabilities Association (PwSD) is a 501(c)(3) human services organization and a collective of individuals with lived and professional experience dedicated to empowering, supporting, and advocating for individuals living with invisible and dynamic disabilities. From chronic illnesses and autoimmune diseases to cognitive disorders and mental health conditions, we focus on the “silent” struggles that are not always visible but deeply impact daily life.
Now calling Ruscombe Mansion our physical home, PwSD is a growing organization gaining traction as we roll out a comprehensive suite of community-powered services
designed to help individuals and families “Thrive Out Loud”:
- Children’s Engagement: Activities and resources that foster empathy and start inclusive conversations at home and in schools.
- Resource Navigation: Personalized support helping families navigate insurance, complex paperwork, and appointment assistance, as well as accessing practical tools, guidance, and community-based resources tailored to their unique needs.
- Self-Advocacy & Wellness: Workshops that empower individuals to navigate healthcare, build resilience, and practice holistic self-care.
- Workplace & Employee Training: Targeted training for employers and staff on invisible disabilities, confidentiality standards, and creating inclusive, flexible work cultures.
- Companion Care: Friendly, emotional support and companionship to assist with daily tasks and reduce isolation.
- Support Groups & Community Events: Safe spaces for connection, shared experiences, and encouragement.
- Educational Guides: Practical tools designed to raise awareness and equip supporters to be better allies.
- Research Development & Policy Improvement: Driving systemic change through data-driven advocacy for economic justice, sensory accessibility, and bridging the gap between legislation and the lived experience.
PwSD is here to bridge the gap in understanding, improve accessibility for fluctuating needs, and ensure that our neighbors in Baltimore never have to navigate their journey alone.
