YogaBirth Begins May 26!

yogabirth

Introducing Yoga for Pregnant Couples in the Ruscombe Mansion Community Hall!  We have a delightful young mother and yoga instructor, Heather Brown, who is planning a six-week innovative childbirth preparation program in our Community Hall starting May 26.  Combining the ancient mind-body wisdom of yoga with education on the modern birthing environment, Heather developed these methods after being deeply inspired by her own experience of yoga during pregnancy.  She says yoga can be a primary method of readying body, mind and spirit for the magical and transformative experience of giving birth.  She has become dedicated to empowering pregnant women to trust their own inherent wisdom and strength to guide them through pregnancy and childbirth and make it a transformative experience for both mother and child.  While technological advancements have enriched our lives in many ways we are more disconnected than ever to the rhythms and power of nature.  Nowhere is this more evident than in the way our culture approaches childbirth.  Modern obstetrics views pregnancy as  a “problem” that a woman endures until she can be “saved” from it by epidurals and scalpels.  But more and more women are turning to the realization that pregnancy is a beautiful and powerful expression of creation, nature at its most divine. The time of nurturing a new soul until it is ready to begin its journey on earth is sacred, and baby’s best beginning is created through the mindfulness of the mother.  The way in which she takes care of herself during pregnancy and the attitudes that she brings to birth and motherhood set the foundation for the future evolution of this person growing inside of her.  Each YogaBirth session includes gentle asana, breathing and guided relaxation practices, discussion of Dad’s role and suggestions for home practice and preparation.  Previous Yoga Experience is not required.

Movement Meditation and Embodied Reflection

$5.00 TRIAL CLASS
for anyone who has a meditation practice

Time: 7:00- 8:00pm Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Location:Ruscombe Mansion Community Health Center
4801-4803 Yellowwood Ave
Baltimore, MD 21209

Somatic Movement Education is the practice of engaging consciousness through the wisdom of our dynamically living tissue. I am interested in gathering together a committed weekly class of meditation practitioners willing to develop bodily awareness and explore the self through guided movement activities, creative movement improvisation, movement analysis, hands on work, and group discussion. I am excited for the interconnections we will make between our somatic experiences and our meditative practices.

In this trial class I hope to provide a safe and comfortable space for participants to:

-Explore the wisdom and structure of their bones through guided movement imagery.
-Experience greater ease, better alignment, and fluidity in their movement.
-To explore meditation and meaning making through movement.
-And most of all, participate in an embodied community of learners.
